Today I had a patient who went to another clinic last week for a medical marijuana recommendation and the doctor was seeing patients over “skype” (computer). Feeling pretty uneasy about how shady the operation was he decided to walk out and make an appointment to be evaluated in our Irvine office.
PATIENTS NEED TO REALIZE THAT SEEING PATIENTS OVER VIDEO SKYPE DOES NOT MEET THE STANDARD OF CARE AS SET FORTH BY THE STATE MEDICAL BOARD. Any recommendation from a doctor over “skype” is at risk of being invalid once this doctor is reprimanded or loses his medical license.
It is extremely important that you ask the clinic if the doctor is going to PHYSICALLY BE PRESENT to examine you and sign a recommendation. The state medical board is very clear when it set the standard of care when recommending medical marijuana to a patient.
1. Doctors must take a complete history and review a patients medical records 2. Doctors must perform a physical exam. It is not enough to have someone take vital signs and then the doctor faxes over a recommendation. 3. The doctor must set up a follow up visit.
No doctor in their right mind would prescribe a blood pressure medication to a new patient who they never examined! It would be career suicide and they would most likely lose their license. Yet this doctor feels it is completely fine to do this with medical marijuana…. all for $49.00! Wow.
I encourage all patients to do their due diligence and make sure the doctor evaluating you actually CARES ENOUGH ABOUT YOU TO SEE YOU IN PERSON! Related Posts • Medical Marijuana Recommendations Invalid In California October 7
