A cutting-edge distillery in Wasilla, Alaska has released a new vodka on April 20 - made from hemp seeds.
April 20 - or 4/20 - is celebrated as a marijuana holiday, so it's only appropriate that Alaska Distillery's hemp vodka, named "Purgatory", is now available. According to the Anchorage Daily News, "the product is available in 18 states as of this week with nine more signed up."
Purgatory is the first vodka to be distilled with hemp seeds, according to Alaska Distillery. And although you'll get drunk from it, you won't get high; the Canadian hemp seeds used to make it are sterilized and contain no THC.
Tom Murphy, spokesman for the Hemp Industries Association says that Alaska Distillery's product "reiterates that hemp should be grown and processed in the U.S. once again, and we shouldn't have to import hemp seeds from other countries to be able to make a product like this."
Alaska Distillery made the news a couple of years ago when they released smoked salmon flavored vodka.
