Among the hundreds of rally-goers were Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Director Dan Rush, Californians for Cannabis Policy Reform leader Dale Sky Jones, and Americans for Safe Access (ASA) California Director Don Duncan and Executive Director Steph Sherer.
Activists in Colorado protested outside of an Obama campaign office in Lakewood yesterday, hoping to draw attention to the President's uncompromising war on marijuana. The Colorado Independent reports that protesters lined the streets, still angry with the recent letters from U.S. Attorney John Walsh threatening to close legally-operating medical marijuana dispensaries in the area.
The Americans for Safe Access has declared this week - February 13-17 Medical Marijuana Week. In a press release on their site, they urge people to "Join Americans for Safe Access Chapters and Affiliates across the country in celebrating Medical Marijuana Week by standing up for our right to safe access."
"We're not doing the initiative. We're pulling the plug on it."
With those two simple sentences, Dan Rush, director of the Medical Cannabis and Hemp Division of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, completely changed the strategy of medical marijuana advocates and the direction of the movement in California.
