Eighteen dispensaries that belong to the Long Beach Collective Association are safe for the next four months. But, according to the OC Weekly, the Long Beach City Council voted Tuesday night to ban "rogue" dispensaries - ones not part of the already-established 18. The Long Beach Collective Association was controversially awarded their licenses by lottery, a practice that got the city of Long Beach in hot water.
The ban, proposed by Councilman Robert Garcia, will see police using "the full extent of the law" to shut down nearly 35 unlicensed dispensaries, says the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
The dispensaries that are part of the Long Beach Collective Association will be given an opportunity in four months for a review of the exemption. At that time, the council will decide on a six-month extension.
