The Irish Minister of State at the Department of Health Kathleen Lynch has declared that Ireland is investigating the use of cannabis-based medications for controlled situations. This statement, in answer to a question from Independent Deputy Luke 'Ming' Flanagan, is promising for proponets of cannabis in the country.

Currently, cannabis medications are illegal under Irish law, but Lynch says that she is aware of such medications being used to treat illnesses like multiple sclerosis. In the nearby United Kingdom, Sativex, a pharmaceutical oral spray based on the raw elements from the cannabis plant, is legal and prescribed for multiple sclerosis. Sativex is also, according to their website, approved in Spain, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand and Canada. We have also reported that the FDA in the United States is also looking into approving it.
